What is a good off-season routine in terms of pitching? How often is too often to throw? With many more injuries nowadays, what age would you start a baseball focused off-season routine?
I think a lot of the arm injuries we’re seeing now come from kids being treated like little pros. A 10–12 year old doesn’t need a year-round pitching program. They need a few months completely away from the mound, some casual catch, and maybe another sport. Throwing 9–10 months a year at that age might build velocity early, but it’s also a great way to burn out an arm before high school.
I agree mostly. But my opinion on arm injuries is kids don’t throw enough. This isn’t necessarily about throwing all year but in season some kids only show up and really “throw” for games. They don’t take warm up seriously and don’t bull pen enough during the week. I also like other sports. My son plays disc golf which we think is really complementary to pitching.
